Whilst playing in local theatre pit orchestras friends, Francis Cowley, Bernie Smith and Malcome Lambert thought it would be a good idea to form a big band, playing classic swing and jazz arrangements for dances and concerts.

30 years on, the Swindon Big Band has continued to keep the tradition thriving in and around the Swindon and Wiltshire area.

Playing a mix of tunes ranging from the classics of the 1930's, 40's and 50's, to cool arrangements of modern tunes, Swindon Big Band have always captured audiences hearts whether for dancing or listening pleasure.

Swindon Big Band has played almost all the major events within the area, with the exception of "the Lord Mayors Ball" to quote a member of the band.
